D.B. Schroeder (Producing Artistic Director) Puzzle Piece Theatre directing and design credits include Talley's Folly, The Wayfarer, the Michigan premiere of Show and Tell, and most recently the world premiere of Small Hours Serenade. Working as a producer, director, actor, teacher, and designer he is well-versed in all critical components required to create powerful, moving, and vital Theatre. D.B. comes to Puzzle Piece after serving as the Artistic Director of Chicago-based Thunder & Lightning Ensemble, which he co-founded in 2004. He led this organization to critical artistic acclaim, including Directing and Designing the Chicago Premiere of Ambition Facing West and a production of The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek, both named to NewCity Chicago Magazine's Year End List of “Top 5 Memorable Productions by Smaller Theatres” in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Also for T&L he produced the off-Loop premiere, and After Dark Award winning, Red Light Winter which was also on NewCity's Year End list in 2007. In St. Louis he taught Acting and Technical Theatre for Character’s & Co., and served as an Assistant Teacher for The Magic House's Storybook Theatre Series. He holds a B.F.A. in Theatre Performance from Missouri State University and Apprenticed at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.
Laura Heikkinen (Associate Artistic Director) was named Puzzle Piece's Associate Artistic Director in October of 2013. Laura received her B.F.A. in Theater from Wayne State University where her play Chiseled, premiered as part of the Heck-Rabi One-act Festival. Puzzle Piece acting credits include: Sharon/Erinn in Show and Tell, understudying and going on as Sally Talley in Talley's Folly, and Julia in The Wayfarer. As an actress Laura has been seen around town on the stages of Shakespeare in Detroit, Loudermilk Productions, and others. Small Hours Serenade, commissioned by Puzzle Piece, marks her professional playwrighting debut.
